This allows us to really examine our research for its content. Gathering research is a huge part of research based inquiry (obviously it's the first word in the phrase). We are going in with an open mindset and our research is going to inform our final work Not all of the research you encounter will make it in to your final project and that's okay. The point of this project is to cast a wide net, engage with many different sources from across different fields and come to informed conclusions after reflection, meditation, and time. Your research journal will be a word document double spaced in MLA style with appropriate citations. This journal will show your active engagement with your research and allow you to practice the summation and analytical writing skills you've developed over the course of our semester. You are required to have eight total sources, three of which are scholarly, three of which are popular. With each source you will write a brief (100-300 words) entry in your journal: summarizing the source, analyzing its content, and noting anything that may inform your final essay or project. You will conclude your journal with appropriate MLA citation. Helpful reminders... Summary-Often begins by describing the source's purpose, then describes the method the source author(s) used in their argument or study, and ends with providing the main finding(s) or conclusion(s). Analysis-Examines the source's strengths and weaknesses. Reflection-This type of annotation states how the source informed (or did not inform) your research.
