Before attempting this assignment, please read Appendix D: Tables, from your lab manual
Follow the "rules" in items 1-6 in Appendix D in the lab manual to create one table to contain the data given in the scenario in the document: SkillsCreateATable-A.docx darr
Submit this assignment on paper. This assignment may be completed on a print-out of the posted Word document or on regular notebook paper (use a ruler to draw straight lines for
the table).
First read the scenario to "gather" the data from the experiment. Note which data are chosen values, which are observed values, what are calculated values (you need to calculate), and decide if there are any
constants for the experiment. Now that you have determined what values are what, you can decide what columns (or rows) belong to which values. Remember to review item 4 in Appendix D to help you figure
out the order or arrangement of columns. In the table outline on the second page of the document, write headers for the columns following item 4. Fill the numerical values into the body of your table (review the
end of item 3 to help with the ordering of the values). The "rules" in item 2 will help you figure out where to write any constants of the experiment. Following item 1, write a meaningful table title using
words/phrases. You may also choose to include symbols in the title, but they are not required.
The sample data table in Appendix D is an excellent resource, but is a little bit more complicated than needed for this assignment. You don't need to include footnotes or super headers.
Reminders about creating tables ...
columns should be ordered from left to right (chosen values, observed values, calculated values, then values to be graphed)
all column headers should include, at a minimum, a description (one or a few words), a symbol, and units [e.g., "velocity, )" or "sphere diameter, d(cm)" or "stopping distance, d(m)"]
for really large values or very small values, you will take out a common power of ten and write it adjacent to the units
if the values in the column all have the same absolute uncertainty, that would also go in the column header
values in the rows should be organized in increasing order (or decreasing order) of some fundamentally important parameter (like a chosen value)
all tables should have a descriptive title (use words)- What is the important thing, or couple of things, shown in the table?
constants go between the title and the body of the table - they include a header (like a column header) as well as the value
tables should be drawn with straight lines (an outline, as well as lines between individual columns, and in most cases, between individual rows)- they are not just a list of values below a header
