I really like what Hallmark is doing with their employees. They are investing in training to help managers become performance management leaders and focusing on gaining the trust of their employees. The pros of this training will enhance Hallmark's company culture, build trust, and establish clear company goals. Some cons may include that some managers might not take the training seriously and not be open minded to new management ideas. However, it's important that a company puts people that are equipped to be in a management position and have the skills to be a great leader.

I like what Hallmark is doing, anytime a company invests in its employees with the intent of helping them grow in knowledge and skills I believe it is a good thing. This is a trait that will bless the company's future development if it is instituted well. I think allowing the employees to use tools such as self-assessment could be a real game changer to the growth of their individual employees as well as groups within the company because these individuals will be more confident with their performance because they know that they had a hand in their overall development of knowledge and skills based on an assessment that they can be sure did not contain biases. This alone helps the employees take ownership of not only their growth in the company but their advancement of the company's directives. With that being said, using the system above does have its drawbacks, for one thing doing a self-assessment can be a hard thing to accomplish, especially if the employee does feel like their performance is inadequate in their own eyes, there are some people who are super critical on how they perform from a work standpoint. It is also hard to eliminate biases when you are rating yourself! Management would need to be aware of the fact that a particular employee might use this as an opportunity to improve their performance by overstating their actual deeds to attain a more favorable rating. While the pros and cons are always going to exist, I believe the system can be used proficiently if it is kept under constant surveillance and updated as necessary to improve its quality.
