Briscoe defines essential functions as those which enable "agencies to provide vital

services, exercise civil authority, maintain the safety and well-being of the general

populace, and sustain the industrial/economic base in an emergency." p.10

Review the submission steps identified in FCD 2; choose and identify a federal or state

level agency; conduct research on their principle roles and responsibilities and

determine their Mission Essential Functions. (These are not the same as missions

performed during times of non-emergency; rather they apply to continuity of essential

missions). You do not have to demonstrate use of the Business Process Analysis or

supporting worksheets.

For this posting, submit a mock letter of approval request to your Interagency Board

(IAB). There are no set templates but I will provide an example should you need it
