Term Project Part A
For the term project, you are required to determine the RSI value of the exterior walls and ceiling for the below structure assemblies including windows. You are then required to determine the heat loss through the structure. The outdoor temperature is -5C(23F) while the indoor temperature is 20C(68F). To calculate the Q value, RSI value (Metric) needs to be converted to R values (Imperial).
The structure is 26 ft wide and 42 ft in length with a floor to ceiling height being 10 ft . The house axis is North-South with the North facing wall having no windows, the South facing wall has 5% of its area as glass while the longer East and West facing walls have a glass area of 8% each. The glass has a U value of 1.2.(Remember from the notes, that U=1R).
The walls are composed as indicted below with the studs at 610 mm spacing.
