Business Law subject.
Case study about Real property topic.
David is part of an indigenous community in BC that lives on unceded territory. His ancestors have lived on this land since prior to European occupation, and he and his community continue to live on this land today. This land is not only his peoples home, but also represents their way of life: they hunt, fish, and have used a 1750 km2 tract for these purposes for as long as anyone can remember. They mark the land with a large set of rock ridges to the West, a river to the South, the end of the forest to the East, and a unique pit to the North. These limitations are well documented in the songs of his people. David is concerned about the land he loves, as his community needs to raise revenue. You met David online playing videogames, and one day he mentions this to you. He does tell you that diamonds were recently discovered in part of their land, but that as the government has the right to all minerals, this doesnt really help them. He tells you if they could just mine those diamonds, his community would have more than enough revenue. You remember taking this class, and remember discussing property. What type of interest in land does this involve? Can his community sell a portion of the land to private investors to raise capital? Is there anything you learnt in this class that you can relay to David to help him and his community?
