Question:
The following case study is designed to help students apply their knowledge of Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) in a real-life setting.
Scenario:
You are a consultant that specializes in Human Resources. You receive a call from the President of Banana Zoo, an amusement park.
"In the past year, we have expanded our amusement park, and we have more than tripled our revenue compared to last year as a result. It's not all rosy, though. My Human Resource manager has been complaining for months that we need an HRIS urgently. She even went as far as saying that she would otherwise quit her job since she is too overwhelmed. Because of our exponential growth, we are struggling to keep up with the number of HR tasks to do. She has compiled a list of problems that arose in the past year and insists that a Human Resource Information System would make everything better. I've never heard about the HRIS, so I want a second opinion."
You receive the list by email.
No. | Event |
---|---|
1 | We paid an employee an extra $500 because I mistakenly entered the wrong pay rate in my calculator. |
2 | We lost the performance evaluation grid of one of our managers because the paper where I wrote my notes blew away in the wind. |
3 | We fired an employee that we had to let go of because he was not a good fit for our organizational culture. |
4 | We lost the signed employment contract of Jessica Pearson since I threw the only copy in the garbage by mistake. |
5 | We had to dismiss 2 employees for stealing, and it was very time-consuming. |
Required:
For each of the problems identified, determine (1) if an HRIS could be used to avoid the same problem occurring again and (2) which HRIS function is applicable.
