CAN SOMEONE COMMENT ON THE BELOW?
Is Nike facing the Icarus paradox? What would it take for Nikes approach to turn from a strength into a weakness? Did this tipping point already occur? Why or why not? I believe that the Icarus paradox is opinion-based. People who do not agree with who Nike endorses may choose not to buy their products, which may hurt revenue slightly. I think that by using the endorsements of controversial sports stars, they run the risk of being lumped in with endorsees short comings. However, I think that because Nike endorses these athletes based on performance, that their controversies off the field and track should not be entangled with the Nike brand. I think for Nikes approach to turn into a weakness would be if they continued to endorse an athlete that was causing a lot of problems. I dont think that this tipping point has occurred, nor do I think that it will. Nike is a successful company, and wouldnt be if they werent smart. I believe they know who to endorse and when to end those relationships. Even though not everyone will agree with who they endorse, customers can agree that their products are high-end and top of the line.
