Can you make 3 recommendations that eBay can improve with the following information?
Ubiquity
I believe that eBay has established great ubiquity. eBay can be accessed from almost any device with internet access. eBay has both a website and app that is available on a variety of platforms. These platforms include computers, tablets and mobile devices. This makes eBay accessible at anytime and anywhere.
Global Reach
I believe that eBay has established a great global reach and has developed one of the largest second-hand auction site to a major global online marketplace. The global reach of eBay is worldwide and has over 135 million active users. eBay operates in 190 countries and 31% of users are from the United States of America. eBay has also established separate sites in 25 foreign countries to better suite the countrys native language and currency.
Universal Standards
I believe the universal standards that eBay has established is good. It is very easy to sell on eBay and anyone can do it. You can create an account, list a product and sell it all in the same day. As mentioned before, eBay has also created separate websites to better suit certain foreign countries. This also means that customers can use a variety of payment options from currency to payment systems. Since eBay sells second hand products, buyers can find items that are cheaper than buying new, but are still in great condition.
Richness
I believe the richness that eBay has established is fair. Since eBay sells second hand products from multiple users, the pictures, videos, descriptions and reviews may vary heavily. Some listings may only include one picture of the product and no description. The item could also be one of the few items that the seller has sold, so there would be no customer reviews for the potential buyer. eBay is a potential gamble for any buyer.
Interactivity
I believe the interactivity that eBay has established is fair. eBay has an option to contact the seller that provides a way of communication in business transactions. eBay also operates on a bidding system, so customers are able to negotiate the ricing of products. However, depending on who is selling the product, the communication between buyer and consumer can be minimal. Furthermore, as mentioned before, the reviews and feedback on a product can be non-existent. eBay also has an online customer service via chat, but no physical number to call.
Information Density
I believe the information density that eBay has established is great. eBay allows sellers to posts descriptions of the product and buyers to also post reviews. eBay is also great at assessing what products are selling for in the general public. For example, if you look up a common item, multiple sellers come up of that item and the buyer can see what that item generally sells for second hand. I know thrift shops and pawn shops use it as a tool to determine the resell price of items.
Personalization/Customization
I believe the personalization/customization that eBay has established is good. Consumers are able to make an eBay account and personalize their page to their interests, hobbies and lifestyles. They can set their preferences by saving products in their favorites, saving preferred sellers, creating a watchlist, and saving passed purchases. Furthermore, eBay has an artificial intelligence integrated into their platform. The AI monitors the buyers behavior and provides recommendations from their searches and past purchases.
Social Technology
I believe the social technology that eBay has established is alright. eBay allows both buyers and sellers to leave feedback for one another which improves the experience and trust between both parties. Unfortunately, as mentioned, this isnt the case for most products sold on eBay. Evidently, eBay collects information about users and as I mentioned above, show you the kinds of ads and sites you would most likely be interested in based on that information. It has allowed people all over the world to start networking and share their interests, which in turn has allowed some seller to more selectively target their customer bases.
