22 Experimental Bring down a row of new TTs from the Supplies cabinet for future testing. Discard any previously used TTs in the Recycle cabinet. Obtain a new DP, and fill it with starch. Apply the Molisch test to the starch. Is starch a carbohydrate? Prepare a test chart for the starch known and fill in the result for this test. Apply the iodine test to the starch sample. Do you observe the positive result for starch (dark blue)? Starch gives a positive iodine test. Starch gives a negative iodine test. Refer to your test chart. You should see that the result for this test is consistent with your flow chart. Starch contains amylose and amylopectin, both of which are polysaccharides. Although starch is a polymer of glucose units, glucose monomers behave differently than starch. Draw a circle around the test result on the test chart. Now look at your test chart for the glucose, completed earlier. Note that the iodine test result for glucose monomers was different than the test result for starch. Perform as many of the remaining tests on starch as you would like to. Normally, once one has gotten the positive starch result from the iodine test, one would not need to perform the other tests to confirm that you have a sample of starch
