Strengths
- What advantages do you have that others don't have (for example, skills, certifications, education, or connections)?
I do not like to procrastinate during work hours, finishany tasks assigned to me by the superior leader on time, and clean the office after closing time to prepare for tomorrow's work day.
- What do you do better than anyone else?
I am honest, hardworking, and persistent. I make sure to finishany job assigned to me without leaving it unfinished or uninterested.
- What personal resources can you access?
I watch my time carefully with each job I am required to finish before the day is over.
- What do other people (and your boss in particular) see as your strengths?
They see me as a person who works hard, determined, and optimistic during worktime.
- Which of your achievements are you most proud of?
I am proud that my education and level of experience have helped made me a better employee let alone a better individual.
- What values do you believe in that others fail to exhibit?
I have seen in other employees lacking work ethic and ambition to do better in their professional lives. Many have question me the reason why I work so hard to be career-driven, yet I tell them I enjoy doing what I love and admire my accomplishments in the aftermath.
Weaknesses
- What tasks do you usually avoid because you don't feel confident doing them?
Due to my hearing loss, I have a problem to communicate within group conversations, as well as confronting with another person.
- What will the people around you see as your weaknesses?
I tell most people my weakness is my hearing deficiency as an Auto Immune Disorder, but this effect does not bother what I am capable to do.
- Are you completely confident in your education and skills training? If not, where are your weakest?
I am confident working within my field by handling my necessary tasks on a regular basis. I have limited experience due to being in school until graduation and I am learning more as I am working at the same time.
- What are your negative work habits?
I have limited experience in the management position because I have worked as an assistant before and still working as one.
- Do you have personality traits that hold you back in your field? For instance, if you have to conduct meetings on a regular basis, a fear of public speaking would be a major weakness.
I tend to overthink when I try to explain my answer to a particular question. When I know what the answer is to the question, I try to communicate it with a proper definition that is not too complicated but clear enough to understand.
Opportunities
- What new technology can help you? Or can you get help from others or from people via the internet?
I believe telecommutingwould be a great opportunity for me to use as I am speaking virtually with fellow clients or customers online during work hours.
- Do you have a network of strategic contacts to help you, or offer good advice?
Yes, I do know a few people as contacts who are willing to help or advise me on job confidential information, this has offered another way to do follow-ups on my clients or take care of future projects ahead.
- What trends (management or otherwise) do you see in your company, and how can you take advantage of them?
I see in my company that we take the time to communicate and organize what are the day's tasks are needed to our attention. I would like to start to know how to confront and communicate more as I try to extend my career further within a possible management level.
- Are any of your competitors failing to do something important? If so, can you take advantage of their mistakes?
I have seen some of my competitors rushing and wanting the reward to doa job they are not capable to do. In that case, I watch their mistakes as lessons to help improve my own mistakes and become a better employee in the future.
- Doyour customers or vendors complain about something in your company? If so, could you createan opportunity by offering a solution?
Some of them would not receive any updates on their job-related projects being extended or cancelled at the last minute. I would like to recommend a system where our company has a set of dates for each project and to email a memo to these customers regarding the progress' time period and updates.
Threats
- What obstacles doyour currently face at work?
Some of the employees have better communication skills or technical skills than I do. I tend to overthink on my explanations and that is something I will need to remind myself to not do so at work.
- Are any of your colleagues competing with you for projects or roles?
Some of my colleagues would use my way of working to help get themselves to the next project or promotion at the office. I have to be careful not to indulge too much or this could one of their advantages to use on me.
- Is your job (or the demand for the things you do) changing?
Yes, the demands I do for my job are constantly changing not it is not often stressful for to handle.
- Does changing technology threaten your position?
Certain areas in technology can become a threat to me, because I am unaware of the newest version for that particular skill.
- Could any of your weaknesses lead to threats?
The only weaknesses that may not lead to threats are my hearing loss deficiency and my limited experience. I do not like to ask coworkers to repeat what they are telling me in a conversation, because I know it can be time-wasted and frustrating. I have watched many people take advantage of my weakness to do more in their line of career; in fact, they see me as a liability with a disability. Even though I inform them that I am capable to domy work, I make it my purpose in my job to not allow it to be a problem for me nor a misunderstanding.
Part 2: Career Reflections
When I began writing about what were reflections for human resources, I was surprised what were my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in a professional and personal perspectives. There were some questions I was aware about, and the remaining ones seemed to challenge me where I would stand as an employee and an individual. Even though my experience is limited in the workforce, I try to learn more through my studies on a daily basis. Within work hours, I would work for a better understanding to help my studies have better reason within the limited time I was given. In contrast, the relationship used between the personal SWOT analysis and the career analysis both had different reasons to which goals I want to pursue now and in the future.
During the SWOT Analysis, I was seeing my credentials were reflecting positive influence to my strengths. My professional qualities I have been continuing to practice are positive behaviors known as loyalty, integrity, determination, and respect. One time in an accounting group project, we split into different roles of our assignment involving numerous calculations and relatable data. Some team members did not communicate nor finished their roles of the project; therefore, I decided to make last minute changes and include any missing data leftover before we were to submit the work immediately. A few of my major tasks I am prestigious to domy responsibilities in the office like filing paperwork or discussing important information with a client with a time essence. My level of education now is an Associates' Degree in Science but I will be receiving my Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration of Accounting next year. The advantages have led myself further to achieve my career goals more into accounting. The biggest achievement I have accomplished was completing my Associates' in Science from Cedar Valley College in 2017. I was so proud to finishat that level to pursue my dream in accounting at another university with another set of skills. My personal qualities I have pursued are within my professional qualities- hard work ethic, honesty, and integrity. Even though there are a few people to ask for advice, I chose to focus more on what can benefit me to the extent of my goals. One of the goals I want to doat this time in my life are to finishmy education now before pursuing graduate school.
The second part of the SWOT Analysis was discovering my weaknesses were aside from my strengths. A few tasks I am not practiced at all with conducting technical tasks on a computer or a software. To learn a new type of technical task is time-consuming to me because I am unaware of the IT requirements, including all of its technical terms for inspections. Another task I would like some improvement would be to change my orientation in confrontations either in person or as a group. I feel nervous doing so due to my hearing deficiency, and this results to a negative employee used to cause a distraction in my auditory processing. The greater the confrontation, the harder it becomes for me to listen and I shut down. The one task I may avoid doing would be my limited experience, but I am trying to improve my experience more through my studies. My only failure that I regret the most would be my lack of knowledge in my previous job as a contractor administrator. Even though I had the option to work as an assistant, that opportunity was never set for me and was ignored. This was one of the reasons I had to leave but for a good perspective knowing I will be expecting a better job during school.
Within a business industry, many trends to be seen and named for an employee is based solely on their level of education an experience. Some businesses require for most jobs have some a length to an understanding within some level of schooling. For example, an accountant cannot be hired with only an Associates' degree, he needs to master his expertise in another school and pass an exam to receive his license. Education is one of the most important tools to have and use in all areas in the workforce; however, I doadmire the opportunity to extend my knowledge in another area of expertise. To be recognized in the work field in my career choice, I would have to show my experience withing my employer's perspective and in a timely manner. For my records, the owner of any firm could find my information through LinkedIn and Handshake and see my credentials. I rarely use Facebook due to my busy schedule in school and work, so any posts were from recent family occasions and events. As for my resume, mine would show important key skills set to my field of work, my level of education up until my current school, and my areas of experience achieved from previous jobs. In order to find my dream job would require not to just work hard but to be patient in time. I will need to prove to my superiors what my capabilities are and can be recognized later. Working either part-time or full-time, would require several tasks including overtime hours and determination in the department of the future. Besides my parents supporting my opportunities to achieve my career choices, I never had a mentor before to lead me the way to my career path.
The main obstacle that has caused me to face the workforce economically is within my limited experience in the education system. Even though I am currently in school, I have been learning while working at the same time. It is not really an economical situation but a hiring kind since it questions the employer whether my set of skills might settle their business for success or failure. The people I will have to face as my biggest competitors are the veteran employees or mediocre ones wanting the same opportunity but within a shorter time. Because business industries have had challenges in the labor force, I have to be authorized as a legal American citizen before starting any kind of work and this must require all legal documentation to prove I am who I am for their records. Technology is constantly changing every day and the skills I used to do manually are now easier and less useful for me to do in the future. The easier the tasks are for some employees can become harder for those of us in other departments. Despite my experience is not enough for some industries to compete with, I believe I am considered a marketable and intelligent employee to hire to work within a firm; therefore, the longer I wait for the right time after school, the better the opportunity for me in the future.
During this assignment, I have started what were my inner strengths and weaknesses as an employee and an individual could lead me to my future goals. With the first part of the project, I would never have known the job opportunities in human resources to be shown in different categories and features. Each job is unique in its own position and had its own responsibilities. The second part was at first challenging but interesting to learn what can be set aside for what I do best for a living and how to handle certain tasks in the long run. I know I am capable to take care of any situation that comes in my way and analyze any solution fit for the problem. The third and last part had some similarities to my personal analysis but this focuses my critical thinking for the career department. Later, I began to realize what improvements are to be completed within my area of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. By contrast, this project has helped me to reconsider what options and skills I have now apart from other skills to help me further in my future professional life.
