Career Informational Interview

For this assignment, you will conduct an informational interview with a professional in your career field of interest ( catering service or restaurant or other entrepreneur). You are free to choose anyone who is or has been employed in the profession and is available to meet with you in person or via phone or video chat. The intention of this assignment is to gain an awareness and understanding of the profession from those who have experienced it. Below is a list of interview questions to guide your conversation. 1. Why did you choose this profession? 2. In the beginning of your career, what education and experience was of significant value to you? 3. Can you describe for me your typical workday? 4. What is your favorite aspect of your work? What is the most challenging? 5. Knowing what you know now, what would you do differently professionally? 6. What three pieces of advice would you offer to college students who are interested in this profession? To complete this assignment, you will write a report presenting who you interviewed and a short description of the profession. The second part of your report will include each of the questions you asked and a summary of the responses that you received. In the final part of your report, you will summarize your experience in conducting the interview, what you found interesting during or after the interview, and how you feel about this occupation based on the interview. Your written report should: address the following 3 components: o Who you interviewed and a description of the profession o Interview questions and summary of responses o Summary of your experience in conducting the interview
