Case #1: Implementing e-procurement system at the Crown Halwa With 13 outlets in all the major cities across Oman, the Crown Halwa is one of the oldest halwa brands in the country. The family-run business that started back in 1972 is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary. Even though the demand of its product range has steadily increased over the period of years, so has the competition and challenges in managing business processes and operations. More specifically, issues related to procuring, shipping, and storing tens of ingredients (eg, tapioca starch, food coloring saffron strands, ghee, cardamom powder, cashew nuts, almonds, pistachio. sugar etc.) has been extremely complex due to many suppliers located in different parts of the world. Since the start of COVID-19, the situation has further deteriorated because of the increasing product and shipment costs, and order delivery times. The management of Crown Halwa has set out an ambitious plan to incorporate a digital purchasing solution with an aim to streamline the purchasing process. The re- engineering process to be implemented by Remake Solutions will effectively improve the firm's communication with its suppliers, and support in developing strategic partnership with them. The new solution will also support the company in effective use of their warehouses that will ultimately decrease the manufacturing costs of their products. During the process, several web based tools and resources wil revamp the existing procurement process.
