Case Issues #2. Failure to Prevent Sexual Assault by drivers. Uber, allegedly fails to conduct stringent background checks on drivers, doesn't require fingerprints to enhance these background checks, and doesn't adequately monitor driver identity (so called driver switching). As a result, the company has been sued by victims of sexual assaults committed by Uber drivers. In both of these allegations, the company has defended its policy. In both areas of allegation, the public seems to have found Uber's defense inadequate. This case asks you to develop a more effective defense of Uber's current policies. You are not permitted to change the policies. In other words, you can't say, we will stop using customer ratings, or get a new and better rating system. You can't say, we will start doing better background checks. You must defend the current policy. Your case question is what communication strategies would enhance Uber's public image by improving their defense against allegations of racial discrimination and sexual assault
