include the use of assessment tools to assess the cases. These are skills that you
must master within the social work profession therefore, it is important that you
start developing these skills when assessing cases. CASE STUDY ONE
Tevita, a yearold boy recently moved to your community with his family. He has
three other siblings. A sister Rosi Pita and Kylie years old. They are of mixed
ethnicity from a bicultural relationship from an indigenous woman can be from any
Pacific origin and a Chinese man. Tevita has been bullied and teased in school and in
the community. He also recently got kicked and punched by a group of older boys in
the neighbourhood. The family does not have any close relatives nearby but the
mothers sister lives about km in another town. They are affiliated with the local
church and the local school where the all the children are enrolled, however, they
tend to keep to themselves. It has been hard for the children to adjust to their new
environment.
You have been assigned this case as the school Social Worker. Draw an
Ecomap of your understanding of the case; Using the phases of reflection,

CASE STUDY TWO
Anna, an yearold girl has attempted suicide twice over the last years and has
been referred to you as the hospital social worker. Her case files state that she is
months pregnant and that her boyfriend John left her when he found out that she
was with a child. Anna lives with her mother Dotty who is a single mother and
does not want to have anything to do with this as she was a teenage mother
herself when she had Anna. Dotty is visibly upset about this as she has told Anna
so many times that she needs to focus on her studies rather than boys. Despite
all, Dotty has accompanied Anna to come to you. Dottys parents live about km
away and are close to Anna, but Dotty chooses not to have any relationship with
her parents.
You have been assigned this case as the social worker. Draw a Genogram to help
you assess this case. Using the phases of reflection, discuss how you would
conduct a reflection on this case. Refer to the instructions provided to guide you.
ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
For the st case study, draw an ecomap to reflect the client's most
important relationships with people, groups, andor organizations; and
identify resources available in the clients' community. After drawing this,
explain in a few sentences what your ecomap shows.
For the nd case study, draw a genogram outlining the history of the behavior
patterns eg suicide, abuse of a family over several generations. After
drawing this, explain in a few sentences what your genogram shows.
Apply and draw a culturagram for only ONE of the cases. Explain your
diagram before continuing with the following.
Using ASWOF Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct, assess how you will
comply to the ethical standards and explain the context when working
through the cases studies provided. Refer to the ASWOF Code of Ethics,
under Wk heading in Moodle.
State the clause number and what it refers to in your write up You are to
explain how the clause or clauses you have identified apply to the case
and what are your responsibilities as the social worker when assessing
and workingreflecting on each case.
Using the cycle and phases of reflection first explain your own thoughts
about what is happening in this case study. This is based on your own
worldview, ie your beliefs, your culture, biases, and how this shapes the
way you are thinking about this particular case. These will be referred to
as your reflections based on your view of the world.
Next, using critical reflection, explain who the client is or are and then
question, challenge, deconstruct the systems, what is happening with
the issues you have identified?
