Case study 2
Brandon has come to your attention because he is often complaining of stomach upset and headaches. He has trouble waking up in the mornings, as he shares that he has nightmares sometimes. Brandon seems unable to initiate routines on his own. He needs constant reassurance and reminders of what is coming next. He will look agitated and close to crying if he is not sure of his routine. He says, "I won't get it right if I don't know what to do". He will refuse to do certain activities and can become difficult.
Brandon likes physical activities usually but has been very sensitive to small bumps and bruises lately and complains of being hurt or sore frequently. He often seems happier standing quietly beside staff than out playing games. He says this is because he hasn't grown as fast as others, so he is not as good at the activities as they are. Brandon is also sensitive to loud noises and will start to cry if the other children are too loud because he is afraid his ears will bleed (this has never occurred in the past). Brandon does well in school and likes achieving high & perfect marks. In fact, he often will need help in handing in his work because he feels that it is not good enough.
