Case study 4 - Buffalo-Global Buffalo-Global is an online store which allows consumers to buy clothing directly over the Internet using a web browser. Customers find a product of interest by visiting Buffalo-Global's website. This website allows customers to select the item of preference in the size and colour required, and customers can load their delivery addresses and make payments online. Delivery usually takes place within three days of confirmation of the order. Buffalo-Global uses several transport providers to deliver customer orders. With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, some transport providers temporarily stopped operations and customer orders were piling up in the warehouses due to non-delivery. The warehouse was currently operating at half capacity and consequently not all materials handling procedures were followed. Many warehouse management challenges were beginning to surface, for example lost or untraceable stock causing delays in delivery. Winter was almost ending, yet winter clothing had not been delivered and introducing variety in the midst of back orders was difficult. On the other hand, Buffalo-Global had also lost two technical experts who maintained its customer databases and, as a result, some information loaded by customers got lost, including delivery addresses. You ordered a clothing item online from Buffalo-Global and the recorded delivery date on the website was three (3) days after confirmation of the order. On the third day, you received the following email: Dear Sir / Madam Please be notified that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, your item will be delivered in the next three weeks. Kindly confirm your delivery address. Be further advised that the colour of the item you ordered is no longer available in stock and our after-sales team will not be available until further notice.
