The company has grown steadily over the last 20 years and employs a workforce of over 15,000 consisting of Omanis as well as expatriates. There are 15 branches of the company located in different areas of Oman. The company's endeavour towards excellence in construction quality, safety, performance, employee satisfaction and social responsibility has enabled it to be the most trusted and sought-after organization for engineering, procurement, construction, operations & maintenance, and project management requirements in the region. It has consistently delivered projects, provided value-added engineering, construction, and service skills to customers for whom the quality of execution, efficiency and reliability are critical. Covid 19 pandemic has a significant impact on almost all areas of economic life in Oman and the world. Al Derham Universal Builders LLC is also affected by this pandemic. In an ever-changing situation, the company is faced with a wide range of commercial and HR challenges. There is a sudden decline in the profits of the company due to frequent lockdowns and closure of business establishments. In the event the construction site is shut down due to the Government decision. This has caused a major loss to Al Derham Universal Builders. As a result, the Management of the company decides to reduce their work force through lay-off. This decision has adversely affected the performance and morale of their employees. Employees become anxious about the sudden change in their financial lives and the uncertainty about their future work prospects. Finally, the management of the organisations decides to conduct an HR Research on overall HR function, before implementing the lay-off decision. Assume that you are serving as a member of HR Research Team of Al Derham Universal Builders LLC Oman. The Management of your organization requires you to conduct a mini research and present the report on the Annual Board Meeting. For this purpose, you are required prepare a report by undertaking the following tasks: 3. Provide justified recommendations to the Management of Al Derham Universal Builders LLC on any three Human resource development interventions to reduce the impact of layoff during the current business downturn.
