Cause and Effect Essay Description Students will write a two-page essay that will use two credible sources to support a thesis discussing the cause and effects or the effect and causes of one of the following topics (some are adapted from Along These Lines): The effects of sleep deprivation on college students. The effects caused by using a computer for written assignments. The effects of poor nutrition on academic performance. The causes of obesity in children. The causes of bullying in school. The effects of online learning. The effects of technology on family relationships. Students will proceed through the writing process in the class and at home, where they will research the topic, develop a thesis statement, outline their essay's structure, draft their essay, receive feedback from classmates and their instructor, revise based on feedback, and submit a finalized draft. Expectations The following are a list of required features of this essay: At least 2 full pages (essay must reach the bottom of the second page). A Works Cited page with at least 2 sources formatted according to MLA listed. Use of in-text citation whenever information or quotations are drawn from another source. MLA page formatting according to the 9th edition. Topic sentences for each body paragraph along with developed details that support the paragraph's topic. A well-developed thesis statement related to one of the topics approved for this assignment. Reflects an academic tone appropriate for college-level writing. Edited and proofread to avoid errors in Standard English grammar. Avoids plagiarism through the use of MLA in-text citation. At least 5 paragraphs with an introduction paragraph, followed by at least 3 developed body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph at the end.
