Ch 6 Debate Issue

So is this chapter about how important it is to learn a foreign language? C'mon...Americans doing business around the world will do just fine only knowing English. The rest of the world does business in English anyway, right? And beyond language, there really isn't any other barrier to being able to effectively conduct business outside our country.

ch 6 Debate discussion: I feel like I've seen this picture before but I can't tell you what it is besides an army. It is important for people to know other languages because of a language barrier. What if a person is in a foreign land and there is an emergency? The only way to contact is through their language. If we as Americans aren't big on learning a new language in our country then why should other countries feel different about it? It looks more respectful going to another country and speaking their native language than to basically demand them to learn ours just to conduct business. Every culture deserves its respect even if it is one we are not so familiar with. Business will always get done but it will be easier if both parties have the same understanding. Not all words can translate to another language, so it would truly be helpful to learn that countries culture and language to give the utmost respect and conduct business peacefully.
