Because the client will eventually own the structure upon completion, a coordinator from the client's organization often must be involved in the project during construction. The coordinator's job is to ensure quality and become familiar with the construction for future operation and maintenance. The construction company needs a commercial group that deals with procurement, HR, and office management. In many of the organizational structures in construction, a group conducts all the required inspections and safety checks. In some cases, there is also a separate health, environmental, and safety group. The equipment and materials group deals with rentals, logistics, and specialty materials that are needed for the project. A construction project organizational structure is shown in Figure 11-16.

The project management structure in this project was a simple one: Craig and his two people working for Myra and Nash Nathan. Even though Nash had assumed he was the manager and sponsor of the project, he had given full authority, accountability, and responsibility to Craig. Nash assumed the authority and responsibility to establish all policies, procedures, and guidelines for the project.
