in chapter $11$ of Promoting Community Change: Making It Happen in the Real World, Building the Organized Effort, takes you through the steps of developing an organization. You have learned the importance of issues and how to use them to provoke and maintain action. You now will understand how much structure your organization needs and how you and others you work with can modify or replace unproductive procedures. You can see that building an organizational identity bonds people together, and you know that you need to build the organization as you do the work of the organization. Again, you value the importance of developing leadership and learning the four most important things an organizer needs to do$.$

Much of the work of organizations is really the work of small groups, so significant attention is given to matters of group process. As a change agent, you will conduct many meetings, and guidelines for running effective meetings are offered. You will examine different types of organizations and their purposes and learn how to formally incorporate an organization. Of course, you want to keep your organization going and growing, and we have explored the factors that are necessary for sustainability, recognizing that money, though important, is the least significant factor.
