Characterisation of Surge Arrester and Linear Resistor Submission Date: 7th January, 2023, before 12PM. The students will be briefed on the experiments, equipment, methodology on the impulse testing on linear and surge arrester at Grounding Facility Store Room. The students are required to write the report based on this briefing/demo, and submit in hardcopy. Objectives: To write a literature review on surge arrester and resistors and its applications To discuss on an outdoor impulse test on linear and surge arrester test loads. To analyse the characteristics of linear and surge arrester test load at low and high voltage. Outcome from the project: At the end of the project, student will be able to understand the methods involved in performing impulse tests. The work will expose the students some experiences with the actual HV equipment, and relates it with the lessons learnt from the lecture. Students will also experience the safety precaution that needs to be closely followed. Main analysis is on the linear and surge arrester test loads under high impulse conditions. The students are required to write a concise report which should include the following: Introduction (25%): Contributed to LO4 Brief literature review on surge arrester; types, materials used, characteristics, etc. Purpose of the tests need to be described clearly; why a need to test a linear test load and surge arrester. General characteristics of linear and surge arrester test loads Characterisation of Surge Arrester and Linear Resistor Submission Date: 7th January, 2023, before 12PM.
