You are assigned sample C for this experiment. The sample is composed of calcium chloride dehydrate and potassium oxalate monohydrate. You need to determine the mass percent of each component in this unknown sample.
A sample weighing 1.141 g was added to 150 mL of neutral deionized water and stirred for a few minutes. A precipitate of calcium oxalate tetra hydrate formed and was isolated by filtration. Two portions of the filtrate solution were kept for testing. One which had a calcium chloride solution added to it and the other one had a potassium oxalate solution added to it. The portion treated with the K2C2O4·H2O solution resulted in a precipitate and the other portion did not produce a precipitate. The solid was dried and the isolated solid had a mass of 0.602 g.
Use this information to determine which component was the limiting reagent and the percent mass of each component in the known.
