Choose an event that would directly affect the task you identified in 1.1. Some ideas are below but you may choose your own. The idea is to have the need to find an innovative and creative path around the issue.

• A new diet / health concern causes your menu to be at risk.
• New immigration laws are making it difficult to hire or retain employees of certain nationalities.
• A new competitor opens next door and has copied everything that you are known for, and you are losing customers.
• New liquor laws have lowered the drinking age to 16.
• The area surrounding your site is being threatened by terrorists / violence.
• A software platform is suddenly unstable/obsolete and your establishment cannot afford to upgrade, leaving you without a technology upon which your business depends.
• Tour guides and bus drivers are on strike with no end in sight.

Here are two ideas to try with this assignment:

2. I encourage you to involve co-workers, peers, or friends in this mind mapping process.

Create a mind map to find ideas that can solve the challenge presented by the event you chose. The mind map should include:

• At least three primary branches using Basic Ordering Ideas (BOI) (described in the mind-mapping link located in the "Activities" section).
• Three to four sub-branches off of the primary branches.
• A separate summary of your final solution(s) of the primary branches.

Be creative, and bold, and try to stay away from only conventional solutions and ideas.Create the mind map using Word, Excel, or even a hand-written page that you can scan and attach.There are no wrong solutions to this assignment. The goal of this assignment is to allow yourself to be creative and not confined by conventional solutions. However, you will be graded on the number of branches and ideas/solutions you create, and the summary of your thoughts about the problem and exercise.
