Chromous ion, [Cr(H2O)6]2+ is a good reductant. Treatment of the oxidized form of an electron-transfer protein with this ion results in conversion of the protein to its reduced form. The Cr3+ ion produced is found to be tightly associated to the protein. Explain this observation.
