You are requested to design the pipeline network connecting the source, S, with cities A, B, and C. Cities consist of up to 4-story buildings and the minimum required pressure head is given from the formula hmin=4(n+1), where n is the number of stories/floors.
Specifically you need to come up with two different designs:
Design A: Use a common service tank for all 3 cities.
Design B: Use 2 different tanks.
For your decision consider the following:
(a) You need to minimize the length of the pipelines, especially the ones from the service tank to the city that predominately have greater diameter.
(b) You need to satisfy the pressure at the maximum elevation within each city.
(c) Avoid high elevation points.
