CIS $2700$: IT FOUNDATIONS FOR MODERN BUSINESSProject $1$: Semester$$Long Team Project Objective: This semester long team project is an integral part of CIS $2700.$ It will provide each team with an incubator $($i$.$e$.,$ an imaginary firm$)$ that will practice innovative $($or entrepreneurial$)$ use of IS$/$IT in support of modern business, from local to global, with successful operations. Project Approach: CIS $2700$ is a general course offered by Business College. In considering the diversity of student body in terms of majors $($i$.$e$.,$ Marketing, Accounting, Human Resources, etc.$),$ this project assumes all the students in a class are part of one organization entity and they are divided into various departments $($functional areas$)$ of the organization as follows: Finance and Accounting: Manages financial activities such as budgeting, financial reporting, payroll processing, accounts payable and receivable, tax compliance, and financial analysis. $($Suitable for Accounting$/$Finance$$related major students$)$ Marketing: Develops and executes strategies to promote the company's products or services, attract customers, and build brand awareness. This department may include areas such as advertising, market research, branding, and digital marketing. $($Suitable for Marketing$/$Advertising$$related major students$)$ Sales: Focuses on generating revenue by selling the company's products or services to customers. Sales departments often include sales representatives, account managers, and sales support staff. $($Suitable for Sales$$related major students$)$ Operations: Oversees the day$$to$$day activities involved in producing and delivering the company's products or services. This department may include functions such as production, supply chain management, logistics$,$ and quality control. $($Suitable for Supply Chain Management$$related major students$)$ Information Technology $($IT$)$: Manages the company's technology infrastructure, including hardware, software, networks, and cybersecurity. IT departments also provide technical support to employees and oversee the implementation of new technology initiatives. $($Suitable for CIS$/$BA$/$IT$$related major students$)$ Human Resources $($HR$)$: Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, and managing employees. HR also handles employee relations, benefits administration, and compliance with labor laws and regulations. $($Suitable for HR$$related major students$)$ Strategy and Business Development: Develops long$$term strategic plans and identifies growth opportunities for the company. The instructor can determine how the teams are assembled and it would be beneficial if the students can be organized based on their majors$/$minors or interests to have deeper understanding for applying the concepts discussed in the class onto the specific functional area of the organization.
