Class Activity Reflection
Reflecting on Feedback
In our discussion on writing skills on February 12th, I suggested that feedback is another step in
writing as an academic conversations. Receiving written feedback - especially feedback that
points out mistakes and short-comings - can be difficult. But feedback is also essential to
learning and improving a particular skill, so it's essential to learn how to reflect on feedback in a
constructive way so you're able to use it to improve. Have you had feedback that you needed to
take a minute to feel your feelings about but ultimately gave you important information about
how to improve your writing? If so, write a reflection on the experience. It should be structured
this way:
WHAT: tell me about the feedback situation (what was the assignment, subject)
SO WHAT: talk about your experience and how you felt about it - how did you feel
when you first read the comments? If they were difficult, were you able to feel your feelings
and then accept the feedback as something that could help you do better next time? Did
you need to follow up with your instructor to clarify the feedback? If so, how did you feel
after that conversation? Did you use this feedback to think about how you approach other
parts of the essay writing process?
NOW WHAT: considering your experience, how will you approach essays and writing
projects in the future?
Your reflection should be approx 500 words (this is a ballpark to help you gauge expectations -
be thorough but don't pad). Write in complete sentences and be honest about your experience -
the goal is to learn something that helps you with your work in your other courses, this term and
beyond.
The last date to submit is March 22,2024(grace period to April 5).I suggested that feedback is another step in
