Question:
ClearSpeed, an innovative hi-tech Tanzanian Company, has developed a high-speed microchip that will revolutionize data processing in computers. Of the 38 people in the company, all but four are scientists. One of the non-scientist is the Supply chain manager. She is responsible for supply strategy - for getting the new chip made and to market. This includes all the production activities, which will be entirely outsourced. She has arranged for the chips to be made by a foundry partner in Arusha, and then tested by another large firm in Morogoro. While the chip design will be done in Tanga, the supply chain manager says she will ‘keep the supply chain in Tanzania’, which is also the location of the initial prime sales market. Chips will then be distributed in Dar es salaam, Mbeya, Mwanza and Tanga. To get best value from its supply chain, ClearSpeed has decided to manage the design and production processes while monitoring its markets, financiers and the testing process.
