She had an assistant, but she was reluctant to every delegate work as she felt if she didn't do it herself, it would not be done correctly. This behavior also followed her in her personal life and she spent the majority of her "free" time being sure her house was neat and perfectly ordered never giving the kids any chores to do as they might not do it as well as she could.
