1. Coding Changes: As a leader and manager, the health information administrator is responsible for communicating reimbursement policy and procedures. This responsibility requires the manager to interpret coding documents and relate requirements to hospital-specific operations.

TASKS:

• Locate the most recent ICD-10-CM Addenda and Official Coding Guidelines on the NCHS website.
• Examine and interpret the guidance provided in the documents.
• Pick three topics to include in a coding education presentation. The topics that you select should represent a major change in coding or coding guidelines. DO NOT pick topics such as one-word modification in description.
• Create an educational presentation that would be provided to coding professionals. The presentation should present the topics and provide coding education and next steps for coding professionals/hospital staff to implement the change(s).

o Hint: Notes from the Coordination and Maintenance Committee minutes may be helpful in describing why codes were added/modified.
