COMM 1340: Direct-Strategy Memo Assignment (20%), Fall 2021 This assignment has two parts: completing an audience analysis and writing a memo. This is an individual assignment; while you will be using the information from the scenario, all the work for this assignment should be done on your own and should appear in your own words. Scenario: You work in the Human Resources department of Van Dykes Suits, a manufacturer and wholesaler of men's, women's, and children's suits that sells to retailers across Canada and into some of the United States. You've recently hired a new Junior Designer, Tyler Grant, who will help with the children's line. In 2019, Tyler graduated from Ryerson University's School of Fashion, with a degree in Fashion Design. He then spent two years working for Capital Garment Company in Montreal on their sewing floor. He starts at Van Dykes on September 7 and will spend most of the day touring your company's various departments (research, design, fabrics, sewing, quality control, packing and shipping, sales and marketing, and the administrative offices) and meeting with department heads. He'll then be officially welcomed at an all-staff reception at 4pm in the staff lunchroom. Your task: Write a memo to all staff introducing Mr. Grant and inviting everyone to join the reception on September 7. Remember, when writing to the company's staff, be aware of what they already know and what they should be told in your announcement. Carefully consider what information to include and what to exclude. Your message should be clear, concise, and appropriate to your purpose of introducing a new staff member, advising staff of his arrival on September 7, and announcing a welcome reception. In other words, keep the body information simple and concise, but provide enough information to answer any anticipated questions that readers might have. . Instructions Complete the audience analysis by answering the questions below. Based on your audience analysis, compose a memo that provides information. Follow the guidelines on writing routine and positive business messages (Week 8 and Chapter 8). While the scenario description provides you with context around the required message, please ensure that all your writing is in your own words. Please do not copy text from the scenario. Submit just one file (either a Word document or a PDF file) that includes both the audience analysis (answers) and, on a new page, the memo. Do not include the instructions or marking guide.
