COMM 215: Business Statistics Section EC Fall 2017 Data Analysis Assignment (10%) Topic: Employee Satisfaction at ZUBRAK Inc. DUE DATE for Report uploading: on or before December 4, 2017, 23:59 ZUBRAK Inc. runs a Chain store with operations in several major locations. Recently, there have been several instances of work slowdown and walk out by protesting employees unhappy with management's response to their demands. Concerned about the issues and the current degree of job satisfaction, ZUBRAK's management has initiated a study based on a sample of its employees from the three major work locations: Loc_A, Loc_B and Loc_C. As part of this study, employees in the sample were asked to indicate their degree of satisfaction in their work (WORK), their pay (PAY), and their opportunities for promotions (PROMO). Each of the three aspects of job satisfaction was measured on a scale from 0 to 100, with larger values indicating higher degrees of satisfaction. The data collected also show the following characteristics of employees: employee ID; job type (JOBTYPE: Managerial, Supervisory, Clerical and Technical), level of attained education (EDUC: HSDIP=High School Diploma, COLLEGE level, BAMA=Bachelors or Master's Degree). The data are in an Excel file, EmployeeSatisfaction.xlsx. For recent studies on 'Employee Job Satisfaction and Engagement', you may refer to the report link below and some of the references cited in this report. https://www.shrm.org/hr-today/trends-and-forecasting/research-and-surveys/Documents/2016-Employee-Job-Satisfaction-and-EngagementReport.pdf Managerial Report Use appropriate methods of descriptive statistics, including tables and plots, to summarize the data. That is, prepare tables of descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, quartiles, IQR, correlations) and appropriate plots (for example, bar charts, histograms, pie charts, dot plots, stem plots, boxplots, scatter plots) of employees' satisfactions of their work, pay and promotions for an overall idea of job satisfaction and by their job types, education levels and place of work. Present the summaries that will be beneficial in communicating the results to others. Follow the guidelines for preparing the data analysis report. As part of the analysis, you are expected to address the following questions: 1. On the basis of summary table of descriptive statistics (and plots) for the three job satisfaction variables, discuss the job aspects that is most satisfying and least satisfying for the employees. In what area(s), if any, do you feel improvements should be made? 2. On the basis of descriptive measures of variability, determine the job satisfaction that appears to generate the greatest and the least difference of opinions among the employees? 3. What can be said about the types of jobs, education levels and job locations in relation to satisfaction on the job? Does any particular type of job, level of education and job location seem to have better levels of satisfaction than the other types? Explore the questions on the basis of side-by-side boxplots (overlay plots on same scale for comparisons) along with descriptive statistics by categories of job type, education level and work location. 4. Use the contingency table analysis to test the hypotheses that (i) The type of employee's job and level of employee's attained education are independent. (ii) The type of employee's job and employee's work location are independent. (iii) The level of employee's attained education and employee's work location are independent. 5. Develop and discuss the 95% confidence interval estimates of job satisfaction (work, pay and promotion) for (i) all employees; (ii) employees from each location; (iii) employees from each job type; (iv) employees from each education level. 6. Suppose that an employee is 'dissatisfied' with the job if the degree of satisfaction for at least one of the 3 expressed satisfactions (work, pay or promotion) is less than 70. Perform tests to determine if employees are dissatisfied with their job. 7. What can be said about the relationships between the job satisfaction variables? Discuss on the basis of scatter plots and correlations of the relevant variables. 8. Do your results suggest any recommendations for learning about and/or improving job satisfaction? Discuss based on your results from 1 to 7. 2 42 42 42 70.5 70.5 70.5 77 77 77 87 87 87 95 95 95 42 95 70.5 87 70.5 87 0.5 1 1.5 0.5 1 1.5 0.5 1 1.5 0.5 1 1.5 0.5 1 1.5 1 1 0.5 0.5 1.5 1.5 59 59 59 71 71 71 77 77 77 85 85 85 94 94 94 59 94 71 85 71 85 2 2.5 3 2 2.5 3 2 2.5 3 2 2.5 3 2 2.5 3 2.5 2.5 2 2 3 3 69 69 69 75 75 75 83 83 83 88 88 88 94 94 94 69 94 75 88 75 88 3.5 4 4.5 3.5 4 4.5 3.5 4 4.5 3.5 4 4.5 3.5 4 4.5 4 4 3.5 3.5 4.5 4.5 Employee ID JOBTYPE 4354 TECHNICAL 2064 CLERICAL 3892 TECHNICAL 4950 TECHNICAL 1338 CLERICAL 1504 CLERICAL 1076 MANAGERIAL 4829 CLERICAL 3423 MANAGERIAL 1100 TECHNICAL 518 MANAGERIAL 923 MANAGERIAL 2505 TECHNICAL 368 TECHNICAL 3875 TECHNICAL 1691 CLERICAL 5901 MANAGERIAL 1943 SUPERVISORY 4995 TECHNICAL 2433 TECHNICAL 4980 CLERICAL 5473 SUPERVISORY 738 TECHNICAL 5512 TECHNICAL 776 CLERICAL 673 TECHNICAL 5086 CLERICAL 699 CLERICAL 5373 CLERICAL 942 CLERICAL 5055 MANAGERIAL 782 SUPERVISORY 1563 TECHNICAL 2466 CLERICAL 3967 MANAGERIAL 7496 TECHNICAL 4602 TECHNICAL 132 TECHNICAL 253 CLERICAL 718 MANAGERIAL 139 TECHNICAL 216 TECHNICAL 4492 TECHNICAL 117 SUPERVISORY 2905 CLERICAL 527 SUPERVISORY 495 TECHNICAL 3773 TECHNICAL 4002 MANAGERIAL 257 TECHNICAL 5901 TECHNICAL 1761 TECHNICAL WORK PAY 59 60 56 56 63 60 62 63 63 63 59 65 62 66 63 62 62 67 68 60 61 67 69 69 64 67 72 66 68 65 65 67 73 69 71 69 70 73 74 67 72 67 68 67 64 76 70 76 74 68 72 74 23 54 55 34 67 29 47 59 62 38 54 42 41 54 54 58 40 40 52 74 68 42 53 47 55 52 52 48 37 37 45 50 58 56 57 63 49 51 52 63 52 76 51 90 37 61 66 49 64 51 72 58 1871 TECHNICAL 2264 CLERICAL 3874 MANAGERIAL 2941 TECHNICAL 4557 CLERICAL 2822 MANAGERIAL 4093 MANAGERIAL 4375 TECHNICAL 883 TECHNICAL 2395 CLERICAL 3413 TECHNICAL 2302 TECHNICAL 3494 SUPERVISORY 279 TECHNICAL 3752 TECHNICAL 3573 CLERICAL 2681 MANAGERIAL 3383 MANAGERIAL 2700 TECHNICAL 4825 TECHNICAL 1398 CLERICAL 1369 MANAGERIAL 195 MANAGERIAL 2724 MANAGERIAL 2414 SUPERVISORY 3687 SUPERVISORY 1694 SUPERVISORY 2941 TECHNICAL 5008 TECHNICAL 1794 CLERICAL 3950 MANAGERIAL 1234 MANAGERIAL 2385 MANAGERIAL 1909 TECHNICAL 233 SUPERVISORY 3858 CLERICAL 3419 MANAGERIAL 354 SUPERVISORY 4429 SUPERVISORY 714 SUPERVISORY 5163 TECHNICAL 2820 CLERICAL 2474 MANAGERIAL 4916 MANAGERIAL 2236 SUPERVISORY 4928 TECHNICAL 4497 SUPERVISORY 1652 SUPERVISORY 2210 SUPERVISORY 1932 TECHNICAL 76 71 76 72 75 79 79 73 77 74 67 74 75 78 75 70 78 77 77 77 80 76 65 71 77 74 73 81 73 82 80 77 74 76 82 76 79 82 86 85 75 81 84 81 74 81 85 86 86 82 52 52 67 84 72 62 66 79 46 86 59 53 83 84 76 60 59 75 92 51 72 68 49 51 65 93 91 64 70 70 91 60 61 77 85 78 74 90 67 79 66 72 66 82 78 90 96 88 94 89 PROMO EDUC 42 HSDIP 47 HSDIP 47 COLLEGE 47 HSDIP 48 COLLEGE 48 HSDIP 48 COLLEGE 50 COLLEGE 51 COLLEGE 51 HSDIP 52 COLLEGE 52 COLLEGE 53 HSDIP 54 COLLEGE 55 COLLEGE 56 HSDIP 56 COLLEGE 56 COLLEGE 56 COLLEGE 56 BAMA 57 COLLEGE 57 COLLEGE 57 COLLEGE 57 HSDIP 58 COLLEGE 58 COLLEGE 59 COLLEGE 59 HSDIP 59 HSDIP 60 HSDIP 60 HSDIP 60 COLLEGE 60 COLLEGE 61 COLLEGE 61 COLLEGE 61 COLLEGE 61 HSDIP 61 COLLEGE 62 HSDIP 62 HSDIP 62 COLLEGE 64 COLLEGE 64 COLLEGE 65 HSDIP 66 HSDIP 66 HSDIP 66 BAMA 66 HSDIP 67 COLLEGE 67 COLLEGE 67 BAMA 68 COLLEGE LOCATION Loc_C Loc_A Loc_C Loc_C Loc_A Loc_B Loc_A Loc_C Loc_C Loc_A Loc_B Loc_B Loc_C Loc_B Loc_C Loc_B Loc_B Loc_A Loc_B Loc_A Loc_B Loc_B Loc_C Loc_B Loc_A Loc_C Loc_B Loc_B Loc_B Loc_B Loc_B Loc_A Loc_B Loc_A Loc_A Loc_C Loc_A Loc_B Loc_A Loc_C Loc_A Loc_B Loc_A Loc_A Loc_C Loc_A Loc_B Loc_C Loc_C Loc_B Loc_C Loc_B 68 COLLEGE 69 HSDIP 69 BAMA 71 BAMA 72 BAMA 72 COLLEGE 72 HSDIP 72 BAMA 72 HSDIP 73 BAMA 73 COLLEGE 73 HSDIP 74 BAMA 74 BAMA 74 BAMA 75 COLLEGE 75 COLLEGE 75 BAMA 75 BAMA 75 COLLEGE 76 BAMA 76 BAMA 76 COLLEGE 76 COLLEGE 76 BAMA 76 BAMA 76 BAMA 76 COLLEGE 76 BAMA 77 BAMA 77 BAMA 77 BAMA 78 BAMA 78 BAMA 79 BAMA 80 BAMA 81 BAMA 81 BAMA 81 BAMA 81 BAMA 81 COLLEGE 83 BAMA 83 BAMA 83 BAMA 87 BAMA 87 BAMA 88 BAMA 89 BAMA 91 BAMA 91 BAMA Loc_A Loc_A Loc_A Loc_B Loc_A Loc_B Loc_A Loc_C Loc_C Loc_B Loc_A Loc_C Loc_A Loc_A Loc_A Loc_A Loc_B Loc_A Loc_C Loc_B Loc_B Loc_C Loc_B Loc_A Loc_C Loc_A Loc_A Loc_C Loc_A Loc_B Loc_B Loc_A Loc_C Loc_A Loc_A Loc_A Loc_C Loc_A Loc_A Loc_C Loc_C Loc_B Loc_A Loc_A Loc_A Loc_A Loc_B Loc_A Loc_A Loc_A
