Task:

This assignment requires you to write a formal research report on a topic/issue related to your academic program. The report must use research to support specific recommendations (you must make one or more recommendations based on your research and analysis). Topics are broad and require a specifically narrowed focus for a short research report.

Possible Topics:

• COVID-19: what will be its long-term effects on the hospitality industry, and how can these best be managed.

Scenario (you have an audience for your report, be sure to consider how your scenario and your topic relate to each other):

• Scenario You are a manager at a restaurant/hotel/resort/event planning business-facing one of the challenges listed above. You have been tasked by the owner to analyze this challenge and make recommendations to address this issue

Research Component:

Include at least three credible sources from places such as the Internet, newspapers, magazines, books, interviews, etc. Images and graphics do not count towards your three sources. You must include at least three citations, using the APA style of documentation. There must be a References page at the end of your report.

Note: Wikipedia is not an acceptable source and will not count towards your research component

Format:

The length of the report should be 6 8 pages, Times New Roman 12, single-spaced, block format (single-spaced, one blank space between paragraphs, as well as between headings and paragraphs). At least 3 sources passing the CRAAP test must be utilized.

Required components:

• Title Page (pg. 1)
• Table of Contents & List of Figures (pg. 2)
• Executive Summary (Start of pg. 3)
• Introduction
• Body (Use sub-headings to ensure greater clarity)
• At least 1 graphic element (such as a user-generated table or graph)
• Conclusion and Recommendations (Recommendations should be made in a list/ bullet-point format)
• Reference Page (Should start on a new page)

Expectations:

• Use correct APA citations throughout, including in-text citations and References page.
• Your report should be broken up into sections with clear headings and subheadings
• Use full block format
• Apply all the principles of effective professional communication, including correct
• punctuation, grammar, style, and tone
• Your report must contain at least 1 graphic element that makes a meaningful contribution to your argument/analysis. This graphic element must be labeled, formatted, and incorporated into your report as outlined in our week 9 lecture.
• Use the general guidelines for reports as presented in the lectures.
• Effective use of graphic highlighting

Grading:

As this is a communications course, all assignments will be graded on content, organization, tone, style, and correctness. In addition, since this is a research assignment, your choice and use of sources will account for a large portion of the grade. Be sure to adhere to APA citation guidelines as this will determine a significant portion of your grade.
