Email has been a way for many people to communicate quickly and efficiently yet it can have some pros and cons. Due to emails being sent through someone behind a screen, two major impacts that emails have had on interpersonal communication are emails falling into the wrong hands which can result in a breach of privacy and emails have also created a lack of in person conversations. Since emails are so quick to send, some people prefer to send a quick email rather then delivering information face to face and having an in person conversation about the information. If emails fall into the wrong hands and privacy is lost, important information can be spread throughout the internet, any social media platforms, etc. Some advantages of emails are being able to deliver messages quickly and efficiently, it is a free tool, it allows for easy referencing, and it can accessed from almost anywhere (Wilson, 2022). Disadvantages of email can include lack of understanding or misinterpreting information, emotional responses, and long response times. Some common email mistakes include using vague subject lines, ignoring who all is recieving the email, sending out emails without clearly thinking and leaving a negative paper trail behind, and using generic sign offs when ending emails (Welch, 2018).
