If I could choose among being an employee at will or a contractual employee, I would choose being a contractual employee. On September 30, 2016, the United States department of Labor issued a regulation to apply the executive order 13706, which confirms paid sick leave for federal contractors. It allows 7 days of paid-sick every year to employees of parties that make contracts with the federal government; it also includes care of a family member. Giving paid sick days would reduce the absences of employees and save money to companies, because workers would take advantage of this benefit by staying at home when they are sick, which reduces the spreading of contagious diseases. If absences occur in mass, it means loses for the company. In addition, being a contractual employee guarantees making money for every hour worked and the opportunity of working in different industries. Working in diverse contract positions improves your resume, because you learn more skills in a short period of time, what gives you more career opportunities. Working as a contractual employee gives you the chance of working in different jobs until you find the one that better please your career goals. A contractual employee has an advantage over an employee at will because the latter doesnt offer stability; the employer may discharge the employee at will at any time and for any reason; however, when an employee works by contract, the employer cannot violate the rights of the employee stated at the contract.
