Personal capacities that should be developed for good leadership range from emotional openness to being non-confrontational. The personal qualities of a leader are more interpersonal than ones of a manager. Having the ability to reflect on yourself and others as well as holding yourself with an open minded and an attitude that lacks confrontation are great qualities to have as a leader. A leader has strength when it comes to listening and has more personal interest in those around them and their environment than a manager is supposed to. Leadership is open, insightful, enthusiastic and flexible. Comparatively, a manager is supposed to be the "talker" they are the confrontational position and are more interested in success of the workplace over the relations in it. Managers are in positions where they keep an emotional space between themselves and others in attempts to better reach goals.

When it comes to leadership and management, in my honest opinion, there are individuals who fail in these positions because they are not equipped for either role. Both positions require a level head and being understanding of what is expected of them and others. Management is hard to succeed in because of the demand and stress of setting and achieving goals not only as an individual but for those under you as well. Maintaining a fixed outlook and keeping personal relations and interests out of the way is often hard for some. Leadership is similar when it comes to maintaining the balance of others around you and making sure everyone is not only comfortable but effective. Having an open means of communication and being able to be a listener for others and have the ability to tackle interpersonal problems carries a heavy burden. These positions are very demanding of an individual and I believe this plays a major part in why there is only a bit of success in these fields,

Lastly, I believe it is more than reasonable that a person can be both a good leader and a good manager. "Managers and leaders are not inherently different types of people. There are managers at all hierarchical levels who are also good leaders, and many people can develop the qualities needed for effective leadership and management." (Daft, 2023) Even though these positions ask for opposite qualities and expectations it is not far-fetched to believe that an individual can be good at both! Knowing when and where leadership and management go hand in hand and when to use either position in a situation is something that would require an individual to not only be aware of their differences but be trained to handle both. The qualities of both a manager and leader are attainable and something that I believe would benefit most of us to have or at least understand.
