Compounding this issue, there is a disconnect between medical providers' understanding of the SLP scope of practice and the realities of applied clinical practice (Santiago et al., 2023; Mishra et al., 2023). Among infants with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS), dysphagia is a common complication (Mensah et al., 2023), highlighting the need for early, targeted interventions. Early engagement of SLPs is critical to support adequate nutrition and optimize oral intake in this vulnerable population (Santiago et al., 2023).
