In week two of our capstone, I was extremely interested in publishing my capstone. The thought of my work being read by others was exciting. However, at week eight, my view has changed. I want to slow it down a bit, take a step back from my writing, and come at it again with fresh eyes before I move forward with the effort that would go into publishing. I have found it incredibly challenging to know when to "stop" with the research and how much is enough. There are areas of my research that I want to expand upon, especially when it comes to my recommendations. I'd like to spend time researching whether or not there are any beta programs in existence like those that I recommended.
A systematic review identifies, selects and synthesizes high quality, evidence-based data that answers a specific, clearly defined clinical question. This review eliminates bias and is aimed to link clinicians with information to support evidence-based practices. A literature review is a summary or overview of a general topic or specific question. This is a qualitative review that summarizes evidence to informally interpret a study(Gomez et al., 2015).
TheJournal of Healthcare Management(JHM)is the official professional journal of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). It is a peer-reviewed journal that discusses current trends and research that support healthcare leaders in making complex decisions. The JHM only publishes original articles that use quantitative or qualitative methods, synthesize literature, and/or review previous research that will influence managerial practices in healthcare.(Journal of Healthcare Management, 2021). If I were to move forward with publishing, the JHM would be the journal that I would pursue.
My timeline for considering publication is six to 12 months. I'd like to be working in healthcare and gain some firsthand experience and insight into whether my recommendations are on point or nave. It is easy to be on the outside and point out problems, but one doesn't truly understand the possibilities until walking in another's shoes.

Looking back on my unit 2 discussion entry, I see more clearly how the variety of journals will benefit me and my professional growth. While publishing does not scare me as much as when we started this course, I still do not see myself going down that path.I will however utilize the information and have a greater respect for those individuals that research and publish for a living. It does benefit the professionals serving in the healthcare field and society could not advance without this knowledge.
My research can be better developed into a systematic review by spending more time organizing my thoughts and refining key elements to my research question. This course has taught me so much about what research really is.Given the number of years I have written papers and taught myself how to conduct research, I now see the bigger picture of what real refined research is.I would start by eliminating outliers to my research question.I found myself going a tad off topic on occasion and pulling myself back to the root problem will better equip my final publication.According to McCrae and Purssell (2015) systematic reviews can be described as a higher level of evidence than individual studies. With this statement in mind, I would go beyond what I have already accomplished and pick apart the higher-level sources.
I discussed The Journal of Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine (JAMDA) as a possible publication source earlier.Currently the journal is taking entries specific to long term care and implementing changes to improve care and outcomes. This was exactly my focus of research but specific to falls in long term. This intrigues me slightly to seek publication, but I still not feel confident in myself. The requirements are 1.to establish a problem 2.provide direct or strong supporting evidence to improve that problem and 3.describe action steps to effect change. The great part about this is how direct the journal is being in describing what they are looking for but still allowing the researcher room to seek out what they feel is problematic in this setting. The greatest part is that your research could implement a change to policy and procedure.Exciting to think that something I research could implement such changes in a field I am already so passionate about. Also, the deadline for this specific opportunity in JAMDA is July 31, 2021!
