Term Project Instructions

Introduction

The term project for Facilities Layout & Planning is designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop a layout for a particular facility and present these plans in a professional$-$quality written report as well as in a professional$-$quality oral presentation. The project will be performed in a team to increase the depth of the work and the experience of each team member.

Scope of the Project

Your team will evaluate alternative layouts and recommend one preferred layout for a facility that will produce "toy" village buildings suitable for model railroad layouts and for Christmas Village displays. All the models are molded ceramic designs with hand painted features and glazing.

Required Deliverables

Included in the final written report and the oral presentation, will be:

Brief description of the company, products, and processes.

Breakout of Production Facility departments and personnel services.

Breakout of Administrative Offices and personnel services.

Explanation of the Criteria for Evaluating Alternative Layouts.

From$-$To Chart for Production departments.

Activity Relationship Chart for Administrative departments $($office areas$).$

Documentation of Inputs for Computer$-$Aided Layout Software.

Initial Layouts obtained from program for the Production Facility and for the Administrative Offices.

Final Layouts for the three highest ranking alternatives from the program.

Your full evaluation of the three leading alternatives, including computer$-$generated evaluation score plus any additional criteria your team deems appropriate.

Presentation of the recommended alternative with explanation for its superiority.
