GDB boasts "high protein." GD organized its sales into two groups, known as families: The Wholesale family and the Direct Sales family. The Wholesale family sells to intermediaries who distribute the bars to small stores and vending machine operators. The Direct Sales family sells directly to large grocery stores. Each family has an organizational structure that interacts with GD's other functional areas such as Accounting and Supply Chain Management. The two families operate separately from one another, in effect breaking the Marketing/Sales functional area into two pieces. In each sales family, GD has four salespeople who work on the road, plus two salesclerks who work in the sales office.
