Part 1: Classes of LP Problems

The three main classes of LP problems are:

1. Activity Analysis Activity analysis involves deciding how much of several different activities to carry out. Activities generally consume (limited) resources and have a differential value (some are more profitable than others). The problem is to find that mix of activities that will produce the greatest level of profits (or lowest cost) (e.g. planning and scheduling, etc.)

3. Transportation problems Assignment and transportation problems involve assigning jobs to people or shipments to routes. The decision is to assign a resource to a task (assignment) or to make a shipment from a particular origin to a particular destination.(e.g. These applications involve a from-to concept)
