Competitive Positioning For this Module we will watch the film entitled Jobs about Steve jobs, the founder of Apple, Competition - primarily with Microsoft, but also with IBM, DEC, and many smaller startups - was a driving force in Steve Jobs' life. We will look at Jobs' legacy, his personality, and the lessons he may have left us. Step 1. Watch the film. Watch the film Jobs by renting it online. This film is no longer available on Swank. Questions to consider while you are watching the movie: What was Jobs' motivation to start the business? How did jobs personality affect his ability to start the business? How did it hurt? What did Jobs do that IBM missed in the early days of establishing Apple? How did the competition react to Apple? How did they fail to see the potential? Step 2. Conduct our own independent research on the Apple iPhone product. Go online. (Hint: Using Mason's Library links to databases and popular articles is a great place to start.) Know what year it was introduced, and find a list of features that were considered new or "breakthrough at the time. Think about the Value Curve from Blue Ocean Strategy, and apply that to what you know about the iPhone. Develop a list of features that you believe were competitive advantages for the IPhone. Step 3.
