Mac and Chromebook users: Like many other legal and business applications, CaseMap and TimeMap are not available for non-Windows-based operating systems. If you have a Mac, Chromebook or another unsupported computer you can elect to submit an alternative assignment in lieu of the CaseMap and TimeMap assignments. This is true as well for Windows users who encountered technical difficulties and were unable to complete the assignments.

Alternative assignment: Thoroughly research the utilization of computers and computer software in today's legal environments, i.e. law firms, corporate legal departments, and governmental agencies. Try to find surveys on the Internet that reveal the nature and type of software used in these legal environments.

• What are some of the primary classifications of software, i.e. document editing and production, litigation support, trial presentation, case and docket management, etc?
• List 3 leading software titles for at least 5 general classifications of software. Include the system requirements for each software title, and when possible utilization statistics for each.
• Which applications are utilized by most firms?
• Identify 5 computer applications (other than those included with Microsoft Office) you feel would benefit you the most by learning in today's legal environment. Why do you feel being able to utilize these applications would be important for your success as a paralegal?
