Completing my Capstone Project helped me connect the concepts from the program to real challenges in higher education. By focusing on proactive advising at Ross University School of Medicine, I gained a solid understanding of the extensive coordination and structured processes required to support students effectively. Previously, I viewed advising primarily as a one-on-one interaction; however, I now recognize that timing, communication, and consistency across departments significantly influence student success. Examining practices at other institutions and exploring their use of early outreach and data-driven systems enhanced my appreciation for the impact of well-organized proactive advising.

Working on my project helped me see how my skills and interests fit within the field of higher education. I found that I'm passionate about collaborating across teams to simplify processes and create a more positive experience for students. I also realized that I care not only about helping individual students but also about improving the systems that support them. This project helped me become more confident in using data, connecting theory to practice, and developing realistic strategies that can be implemented into workable solutions at the institutional level.

Additionally, this experience changed my perspective on leadership within higher education. I now understand leadership as the capacity to listen, collaborate, and foster environments in which students and staff feel supported and valued. In the future, I plan to use what I've learned to strengthen advising and student support, with a focus on encouraging early outreach and maintaining clear, consistent communication. This project reminded me why I'm passionate about working in education. I want to help create environments where students feel supported, understood, and capable of reaching their goals successfully.
