Managing Your Life: The Role of Your Computer

Taking advantage of your computers capacity to remember everything will help you by organizing your time better. Once you computerize your calendar, you will always be reminded of your appointments. Names and addresses will always be there and not get misplaced. You can print out this information whenever you need it and, if you entered it correctly, it will print out correctly.

Word processors have templates that allow you to reuse models. Spreadsheets can be programmed to repeat steps. So not only do computers save data but they can take the procedures for capturing that data and reuse them. Graphics, letters and memos can be saved, retrieved and edited for tasks other than the ones for which they were created.

Word processors can simplify your work. Writing, rewriting, cutting and pasting no longer are the grueling, time-consuming tasks they once were. Automatic features such as spell and grammar check are particularly effective at keeping help at my fingertips. Making documents look more professional doesnt require a graphic artist. Your word processor has sophisticated design tools to enhance your message.

Databases let you search and retrieve information in a fraction of a second. Databases are better at this than word processors because they store information in specific locations that can be easily found. Data can be sorted in different ways, and displayed on reports, customized forms or even on mailing labels in a short amount of time.
