Contractual third parties:

a) Typically just emerge from the same system as the disputants

b) Are generally well paid and have little to no incentive to resolve a conflict

c) Are governed by a set of rules or regulations previously agreed to by the parties that determines the form of third party intervention and when that intervention occurs

d) Have the power to impose a settlement on the disputing parties
