Culminating Activity - Part 1 - 10%

Instructions: Select1 of the following 4 questions and respond to each in a well-organized essay response. Remember to include an introductory paragraph (that includes your thesis statement), some supporting ideas (aim for at least three per paragraph) and a concluding paragraph. For your support, you should use meaningful evidence from throughout our course (no outside research should be completed). When referencing course material you can refer to the material by unit and activity number. For instance, if you are referring to material from Unit 2, Activity 3, you would use (U2A3). No need for works cited page at the end because all support will be coming from course material. The essay should be approximately 1000-2500 words in length.

1. Naturalist thinkers proposed that the basic principles governing both domestic and international law derive from natural law. Humans merely have to discover and understand these laws. Explain to what extent (i) domestic law and (ii) international law be attributed to natural law?

1. Explore at least three similarities and three differences between Canadian law and international law. Ensure you fully contrast the two types of law and explain the similarities and differences. Please note: this question requires a comparative essay, if you have never written one, choose a different question.

1. After the conquest of Melos, scholar Thucydides "the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must". Based on your knowledge of domestic law and international law, how true do you feel like this statement is in modern times?

1. Former Chief Justice Bora Laskin said that the law should be a reflection of the attitudes and morals of society. If this is true, are our laws at the domestic level and international level, an appropriate reflection of society today? Explain.
