COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is intended for financial management students. It exposes the students to the opportunities in the area of risk management and allows them to apply risk management concepts, principles and process through cases and actual investment in the stock market. This course covers the identification of objectives of risk management and risks, assessment and prioritization of risks, coordination and economical application of resources to minimize, monitor and control the probability and/or impact of unfortunate events or to maximize the realization of opportunities. Special topics such as insurance and hedging with derivative contracts are included topics. COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES: After finishing the course, the students should be able to: a. State risk-return concepts and principles b. Apply risk management to make sound and ethical individual and business decisions c. Solve expected losses using f probability and statistics d. Apply concepts and principles of insurance through pooling arrangement of correlated and uncorrelated loss exposures e. Apply concept of diversification through actual stock investing and hedging through the use o derivatives f. Evaluate the risk management of firms/organizations using Enterprise Risk Management principles g.
